I forgot to post this in here...
Alexander Martin was born on April 7th at 6:50 am weighing 8lbs3oz and
measuring 20.5 inches long.
Short-ish birth story.
My c-section had been scheduled for Friday April 9th. So hubby and I had been
busy getting things ready with that date in mind. I'd spent about a week
having uncomfortable, but very irregular contractions. On Monday night I got
very little sleep because it suddenly got very warm (into the 80's which is
unusual at this time of yr here)...and I was very uncomfortable. Tuesday was
met with a very cranky me...it was hotter, and I was just flat out not feeling
well at all...finally hubby put the AC on, and that allowed me to sleep for an
hour or so...but still I was uncomfortable. By midnight I had a nasty stomach
ache crampy feeling...which I did my best to ignore. 12:45 there was a gush,
which was unmistakably my water breaking.
So I woke my hubby up, he made some phone calls...packed our bags...woke up the
older kids to say goodbye...and we wereoff to the hospital. We've been to this
hospital for 3 births, prenatal visits etc etc...easily making the trip at
least 100 times...yet hubby manages to get slightly lost on the way.
So we get to the hospital, get checked in...hospital staff swarm around. IV
get put in, and it takes 5 tries! OUCH!! They did a cervix check and I was 3 cm
dialated! Which is ironic because it took me 30 hrs to get to that point when
I tried my first vbac!
I tried to convince them to let me wait until my doctor came in in the
morning...but they'd have none of that. (Ironically it turns out they called
my doc and he told them he'd do the c-section...but they went ahead and did it
without him anyway...he was pissed when I saw him the next day!
So anyway...there was one c-section ahead of me...which was good, as it gave me
some time to calm down a little. Just after 5am it was my turn. In the OR I
had to be tape recorded saying I understood the risks with my epidural due to
my neurological issues...which was slightly unsettling. On the bright side my
anastesiologists were really good...and very kind.
So onto the c-section...it took forever to get the baby out...turns out I had a
lot of scar tissue and adhesions which complicated things. Baby was born at
6:50am...once baby was out the surgery moved along much more quickly.
BGack in recovery I couldn't wait for the spinal/epidural to wear off....they
told me it would take at least 2 hrs to be able to move my legs again...and I
hated every second of it. Finally just passed the 2 hour mark I started to get
movement back...slowly but surely. Boy oh boy was I happy! Finally as my toes
started to wiggle...I finally felt a deep sense of joy and relief. Things had
gone as perfectly as I could have hoped for. Healthy beautiful baby....healthy
mommy. Life was/is grand!
