Well I don't know about the mom's parents, but they should have known dad's mom
(my MIL) is not generally a big spender.  She got them an outfit, and a small
stuffed animal.  Which is about on par with what she got me at
my baby shower.  Course she hosted the shower for her so I'm sure the expense
and effort of that was part of the gift too.

I dunno...it seems to me they didn't think this through very well. Its one
thing to register for the moon if you can afford to get it for yourself if no
one gets it for the shower.  But when you need *everything*...and you're always
having financial issues (one parent's a grocery cashier, the other works at a
fast food joint) trying to get high end items is silly.  Made it tough for my
hubby and I because we wanted to get a larger item but couldn't afford the
pricey things they registered for....but we did't feel comfortable going off on
our own and looking for lower cost of the same item...since that's not what
they asked for...so we didn't even try to price other items and instead got a
bunch of smaller things.  Lots of people got the some really cute outfits and
bibs and that kinda thing though so they should be well set there.

I'm tempted to offer them a couple of things I have...high chair and
stuff...but if mom cringed at the garage sale idea not sure she would
appreciate my offer. I don't want to offend them or make them feel obligated to
take something they won't use.  And if they are not comfortable using it I'd
rather keep it in case we are blessed with anothe baby.

Oh well thanks for the input...I thought it was a stretch to think things went
up *that* much in such a relativly short time.
