Question about breastfeeding and meds (I know - it's post pregnancy, but seems
the topic appears here more than in CHildren) -
When I was pregnant (our little one is now 8 weeks), I had a list of
medications approved by the midwife (CNM, ARNP) and the obgyn she works with,
and also asked about hair color. At the time I asked about hair coloring, I
tink she said no to anything that went to the roots. I also asked about using
chemical hair removers, and self tanning, but forgot the answer.
My question is now: In addition to approved medications while breastfeeding, is
there a list of approved (or not-approved as that would be shorter) cosmetics?
Can I color my hair (starting to see grays - ick), use self tanners, use any of
cosmetics that contain anti-aging compounds, etc? Should I assume if its over
the counter, it would be ok? Didn't know about which things could still get
absorbed into bloodstream and/or milk supply. I've heard about retinol and
other compounds that I believe used to be in prescription skin items and didn't
know what's totally safe. Thanks!
