I've observed hospital classes as well as private and different types of
classes.
Are they absolutely necessary? No..without a doubt your baby cares nothing
about whether you take a class and the baby *WILL* come out even if you've
never read a book and even if you didn't know you were pregnant. Baby will
still come out.
Are they beneficial? Depends on you...depends on the class. I've seen some
that are worthless. I, obviously, think mine are pretty awesome. *wink* *grin*
I don't teach breathing in my classes...I feel that teaching breathing is
counterproductive and does more harm than good. But I do get a lot of positive
feedback from my childbirth classes....and obviously I think they are a good
idea since I teach them. *heh*
